It’s really amazing what modern printers are capable of, so much so that it’s nearly an anachronism to call these devices just printers. They’re truly workplace assistants of the technological variety that can do just about everything other than bringing you a cup of coffee (although by the looks of it, the engineers at Xerox are probably working on that, too).
One of the coolest—there really isn’t a better word for it—features we’ve seen on modern Xerox printers is the ability to do automatic language translation. Basically, you scan in a hard copy document in language #1, and the printer “spits out” a fully translated document in language #2. Until recently, this was primarily translated by the Xerox Easy Translator Service, but this program was recently deprecated by Xerox.
Don’t worry: there’s a replacement ready to go. Xerox Easy Translator Service users will need to make the switch to the Xerox Translate & Print app.
The Xerox Easy Translator Service is No More, But Now We Have the Xerox Translate & Print App
If, like 49% of other businesses, you’ve experienced financial losses due to misunderstandings and language barriers, the solution is to start using reliable, accurate instant translations for your documents. With XETS on the way out, the latest, greatest way to do so is with the Xerox Translate & Print app.
Past users of XETS will be relived to know that any remaining credit balance left on their account will be automatically available for use with the new Translate & Print app, so you won’t miss out on anything.
The Translate & Print App is, no doubt, a worthy successor to the Xerox Easy Translator Service. The only thing missing is the option for human-provided translations—in XETS this was a relatively slow process, as a real person would have to manually review the documents you submitted. Machine translation technology is getting so good that we imagine Xerox must have decided to drop this feature as a logistical decision.
We’ve had a chance to play with the new app a few times since it was released, and it’s every bit as easy to use as XETS was—perhaps even moreso. As Xerox continues to iterate on getting real-time document translation just right, we’re eager to see what the future holds for this technology—because it already feels downright futuristic as things are now.
If you’re enjoying automatic document translation with your Xerox MFP or other ConnectKey-enabled device, there’s a few other great apps you may want to consider.
